Northeast Kansas Environmental Services (NEKES) represents an environmental coalition of five county governments in northeast Kansas, and ensures compliance with local, state and federal laws, state statutes and regulations, and county environmental and sanitation codes that address environmental concerns in the affected counties. Those counties include Atchison, Brown, Doniphan, Jackson and Nemaha. NEKES, a quasi-governmental entity, is managed by a board of directors comprised of two representatives from each of those counties.

NEKES is dedicated to ensuring a safe and healthy environment may be enjoyed by all residents. Our goal is to protect the groundwater and public health and safety. We work closely with homeowners and NEKES-licensed wastewater system installers to ensure the best location of your wastewater system and/or private well.
